Swinburne University of Technology, Wellbeing Clinic for Older Adults | Conducting research in residential aged care

This presentation gives an overview of the advantages and complexities of conducting research in residential aged care settings. This presentation includes a discussion about: ethics and informed consent, strategies for maintaining good relationships with research partners on site and the benefits for residential aged care facilities when involved in research. The content will draw on Joanna’s personal experience conducting research with older adults in residential aged care as well as the 30+ years of experience from the Wellbeing Clinic for Older Adults team.

About the Presenter

Dr Joanna Waloszek is a researcher at the Department of Psychological Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology. She is currently the Research Project Manager of the ELders AT Ease (ELATE) Program- a randomised controlled trial of a psychological treatment program for residents experiencing depression in aged care. Joanna completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Melbourne and has conducted a number of large scale research trials with vulnerable populations. Her main research interests include psychophysiology, mental health, early intervention/prevention, ageing, and sleep.
